Since completing 1981’s ‘Tear The Roof Off’, Triumph fulfilled their contract with Sparrow Records and where under no obligation to release another album. It has been three years Triumph’ last studio CD, “In Concert” which won MTV Music Awards and was nominated for album of the year. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Triumph has. Another great offering from Triumph.
After you’ve listened to American Girls, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Lay It On The Line, which shows, blatantly, how much Triumph has evolved as a singer. Allied Forces is a bit different from Triumph stereotypical stuff. Fight The Good Fight good vocals. Blinding Light Show / Moonchild is perfect song though, very addictive. Rock’ N’ Roll Machine stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. I Live For The Weekend is the song that really did it for me. Natures Child - is a breath or fresh air compared to many previous songs of Triumph. Triumph must have run out of lyrics on the next track Drum Solo. Instrumental is a great opener for In Concert. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Triumph. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor.
